Ubuntu What does the carrot ( > ) in terminal mean?

2012-02-09  Source: Original Site  Category:Ubuntu  Views:5

I'm a fresh convert from windows. :)
I'm trying to install pidgin using the terminal. I'm using "How to install Anything in Ubuntu" as a guide (http://monkeyblog.org/ubuntu/installing/) which seems to be working.

In terminal, I cd to the folder, I ran `./configure' --worked fine, but when I type `make', the terminal jumps down a line and just gives me the carrot ">" mark on its own line.

What is this and do I need to be worried?
