Oracle Datafile blocks

I'm in the process of moving gigabytes (per table) of data from a tablespace into a new tablespace with much larger uniform extents. However, due to limited space on this test system, I'm shrinking datafiles in the first tablespace as I move the data over, to reclaim it for the new tablespace.

The problem is that the end of most of the datafiles are littered with blocks from these tables and this prevents them being shrunk. I think using 'alter table x move tablespace y' into the tablespace they already occupy makes the tables use blocks near the start of the datafiles again, so that I can shrink the files.

Is this the only/best way?
